Flame On/ Jota Productions
Flame On is a corporation founded by Chidi Akwari and partner Jermaine "JJ" McDaniel in 1997. At Flame On,
our people have had a wealth of experience with night life in cities everywhere, from New York to Los Angeles and
almost every place in between. Having seen, and loved it for years, Flame On finally feels as an
organization like we are ready to take our knowledge, savvy and dream to the next level. The ultimate goal is is to establish
clubs in key locations throughout the U.S. Currently, we are working with projects of the variety that Jota Productions, overseen by Jermaine McDaniel and partnered
by Tin Ngueyn have already started at nightclubs all over the Chapel Hill, N.C. area. Recently, Jota Productions has thrown parties
in Chapel Hill by renting out the venues from the owners and establishing deals with them such that Jota productions
is paid from door profits while the owners see their money through their liquor licenses and any food served. So far the net income and
outcome has been fantastic. In addition to eventual club ownership, Flame On and its staff of 6 are currently in charge of promoting parties at the Chapel Hill nightclubs as
well as another venture founded by Chidi Akwari entitled "Hot Nickels" through which club go-ers can commission
Flame On to throw private parties and even have soundtracks for these parties. Much like Billboard Music does music award show
soundtracks, "Hot Nickels" would produce soundtracks for these parties containing any tracks the customer chooses
from any established record label group or solo artist. Or if somone at a Flame On club or party heard new songs that they liked
they could have those songs put on a disc with some of their favorite current songs as well. For example, if you were at the club on a Saturday and heard songs by everyone from Jay-Z to Britney Spears and you like all that stuff, you would fill out a form with those songs you liked there, then you could add your favorite songs from the radio and top it off with a couple more you might like because of their bass capabilites in your car. We would take your play list from you as you exited the club along with a deposit and prepare your disc by the end of the week. The choices are limitless.
The name for the corporation, "Flame On" has a meaning rooted in the vibe that we feel the company projects. We feel that our ideas, our music, our parties and our clubs from top to bottom are all "Hot" or very innovative and fun. Johnny Blaze, was a superhero favorite of ours as kids, he was a well liked guy with a sense of humor that one would see on the street and pass by without thinking he was any different, however when he said the phrase "Flame On" he would turn into fire and use his abilities to scorch the bad guys, or the people he saw as competition. His character and his character traits are somewhat similar to that of our group, its vision and its plans for the future. As young CEO's of the company, which was incorporated in 1999, McDaniel and Akwari have seen the profits from this venture yield late model vehicles for both of them without even having been allowed to put in the time they would have liked due to school responsibilities. They now have the time and the drive to initiate the plans that will hopefully provide for the two of them as well as their families in the future.
Flame On as well as Hot Nickels recordings is run as a partnership between Chidi Akwari and JJ McDaniel with a headquarters in Boston, Mass. and a local office in Durham, North Carolina.
